Styled Shoot: Boho-inspired Wedding

October 12, 2018 by Stephanie Maxwell Newton

We are so excited to share this vibrant styled shoot by Maddie Ward of Sonnet Weddings and Jamie Napier of Napier Portrait Collective on the blog today! Read below for details on how this collaboration came about.

Like many great collaborations, this one came out of the start of a new friendship. “Maddie and I met up at Arsaga’s one morning because we followed each other on Instagram and wanted to be friends in real life,” Jamie explains. “She shared some mood boards with me with incredible vision, and I was so inspired by what I saw.”

Maddie started with what she calls a “Southwestern bohemian vibe.” “Jamie and I both gravitate towards rich, fun colors, so we knew that the celebration had to be full of happy brights like teal, orange, fuchsia, and grapefruit,” Maddie says. “We also wanted to create a laid-back party atmosphere, which is where the vintage records and record player idea came in.”

Maddie brought in Southwestern style through woven textiles as well as cactuses and succulents on the table. Other recurring elements were pom poms and tassels, which appear in the tabletop, bouquet, and bride’s earrings. “Everything had loads of thought put into it, from the DIY earrings to the cactus pad place settings. Insider secret—you can get those for super cheap at any Mexican grocery store,” Maddie says.

Most of all, Maddie and Jamie hoped this collaboration would give brides inspiration for their own happy celebrations. “With every styled shoot, there are always ideas that I hope people can use at their own weddings. Having a BYO record player is one that I hope gets borrowed,” Maddie says. “It’s a good example of how to take elements of how you entertain your friends and family at parties you throw regularly and turn them up a notch or two to make your wedding feel uniquely you.”
